The Gunners’ technical director Edu will reportedly hold talks with Guimaraes’ representatives in London in the next few days, when a potential contract at the Emirates Stadium will be discussed.
Chelsea have also shown an interest in the 22-year-old midfielder, but Benfica are believed to be leading the chase having already made a bid for the Brazil U23 international.

However, with Mikel Arteta keen to bolster the midfield area despite a limited budget, Arsenal could also come into the equation.
The Portuguese side, who lost Gedson Fernandes to Spurs on a one-and-a-half season loan deal, do still appear to be the frontrunners at this stage.
As his replacement, they have offered Athletico £18.7million for Guimaraes, which the Brazilian club are still weighing up.
Addressing rumours that Benfica had submitted a bid, the Brazilian club’s president Mario Celso Petraglia told Portuguese outfit O Jojo earlier this week: ‘Yes it’s true. Yesterday came the official offer from Benfica to sign Bruno Guimaraes.

‘Let’s study Benfica’s offer. We will meet the club board to assess this situation.’
However, Petraglia insists an offer from Arsenal remain in the running but have so far shown their preference for a summer deal.
He added: ‘Arsenal are interested, but will only make an offer towards the end of the season.
Arteta is also keen to bring in defensive reinforcements this month, but has had financial restrictions imposed on him after a summer in which predecessor Unai Emery brought in six new faces, including £72m record signing Nicolas Pepe.
