‘FINALLY Tottenham will win a trophy… the Mourinho effect!’: Spurs fans predict silverware as Jose replaces Mauricio Pochettino… but Chelsea and Manchester United fans call out ‘hypocrite’ old boss after he said he would NEVER manage the club

Tottenham fans believe their trophy drought will soon come to an end after Jose Mourinho became their new boss on Wednesday morning.

Mourinho signed a contract until the end of the 2022-23 season with the north London club and has been handed double the salary of predecessor Mauricio Pochettino.

The Portuguese, who has been out of work since leaving Manchester United close to 12 months ago, has a rich history of delivering titles and cups and optimistic Tottenham fans were left positive following his announcement.

Mourinho delivered the Europa League title in his first season as Manchester United boss and there is an expectation he can deliver a trophy for Tottenham, who are competing in the Champions League, FA Cup and Premier League as it stands.

‘Finally Tottenham will win a trophy this season. The Mourinho effect!’ one excited fan wrote on Twitter.

Another added: ‘Mauricio Pochettino is a great manager but Jose Mourinho to Tottenham may be a better appointment than everyone thinks.

‘Wouldn’t be surprised if some sort of trophy was pending soon…’

Mourinho was linked to the Arsenal job with pressure building on Spanish boss Unai Emery. But he has now taken charge of their bitter rivals.

Twitter user Jordan Davies believes Mourinho can transform the mentality of the club to deliver trophies: ‘Spurs have a team of bottlers. Mourinho is a born winner.

‘Arsenal would have snapped him up soon, #THFC were doing badly anyway Genius by Levy. Football’s got it’s best character back. Huge W all round #WelcomeJose.’

While focus landed at the door of Tottenham fans and their reaction to the news, Chelsea fans were left particularly angry that one of their greatest ever managers has taken charge of a bitter rival in Spurs.

One Chelsea fan account tweeted: ‘If Jose Mourinho truly ever loved Chelsea, he would not have even considered the Tottenham job.

‘But clearly, there’s no love from him for us. Acknowledge his achievements here, but all love for Mourinho is gone now.

Fans who had no affinity to Tottenham, Chelsea or Manchester United simply rejoiced at the return of Mourinho, with many suggesting that the Premier League without him had ‘become dull’.

‘Premier league without #JoseMourinho is dull. Exciting times ahead,’ one user wrote.

But the true hilarity came in the form of GIFs and memes with Mourinho’s determination to be rigid defensively captured in the form of him stood on a London bus.

Others used reactions from the US Office to poke fun at the reactions of stars like Harry Kane when he meets Mourinho, after the Portuguese accused the striker of ‘hiding’ in the Champions League final back in June.

More to follow.
