Champions League qualifiers Napoli were reportedly in pole position to sign the striker, who had two years at Serie A rivals Juventus from 2013-15.

But Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi hopes to tempt the veteran with the offer of a three-year contract, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Italian clubs have until September 2 to register their squads for the new season.
