The French Football Association has announced Neymar will be suspended for three domestic matches with a further two matches suspended.

PSG announced within hours of the decision their intention to appeal.

A club statement said: ‘Considering the insults suffered by several of the Club’s players, including Neymar, at the end of the Coupe de France final, plus the various elements sent by PSG to the disciplinary commission, we consider this sanction severe.’

Meanwhile, Neymar will appeal the separate three-game suspension handed down by UEFA for the Champions League.

He was sanctioned for criticising the match officials during PSG’s defeat to Manchester United in the second leg of the last-16 tie at Parc des Princes.

‘This is a disgrace, they put four people that know nothing about football in charge of looking at the replay for VAR,’ Neymar wrote on social media.

‘There is no penalty. How can it be a handball when it hits his back! Go f**k yourselves!’

United were awarded a controversial penalty in stoppage time when the official consulted the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and Marcus Rashford converted to send United through on away goals.

UEFA suspended Neymar on April 26, meaning he will miss the first three group matches of next season’s Champions League, but he has decided to appeal.

With three matches of the Ligue 1 season remaining, it means Neymar will serve out his domestic suspension this season.

They travel to Angers on Saturday before matches against Dijon next Saturday and Reims the following weekend.

With reports that Neymar wants to leave the Paris club this summer, he could well have played his final match for them.
