The Madrid press are reveling in Pep Guardiola‘s side’s exit in the Champions League to Tottenham on Wednesday.

The ex-Barcelona boss saw his Manchester City side crash out in the quarter-finals after a 4-3 thriller at the Etihad. 

Spanish paper Marca said: ‘812 million is not enough to win Guardiola the Champions League.

Spanish newspaper Sport said farewell to City as they failed to make the last four of the competition.

Guardiola’s side were knocked out in the Champions League quarter-finals last season by Liverpool and Monaco in the last-16 in the City manager’s first season. 

The English press also hammered Guardiola after their exit on Wednesday night. 

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards said: ‘He has had three chances and he has never made it to the quarterfinals with City, that ugly cross will chase him and torment him’. 

Daily Mirror’s Andy Dunn said:  ‘It is not surprising that Pep Guardiola often has the look of a man who can not wait to leave his job.’
