Roma believe Arsenal target Monchi is seeking a move away from the Italian club as the highly-rated Spanish sporting director continues to attract interest.
The Gunners are leading the race to land Monchi, 50, as they continue to reshuffle their recruitment team following the high-profile departures of Sven Mislintat and Ivan Gazidis.
Arsenal were keen on luring former winger Marc Overmars back to north London from Ajax but the Dutch side do not want him to leave.

Monchi, who worked with Unai Emery at Sevilla, is said to be keen on working in England after successful spells in Spain and Italy.
The transfer chief is expected to hold talks with Roma president James Pallotta before making a final decision on his future.
Monchi, who joined Roma in 2017, has a £2.6million release clause in his current contract – according to the Evening Standard.

Arsenal will be keen on concluding a deal for Monchi as soon as possible in order to plan for the summer transfer window.
Former head of recruitment Mislintat, who was behind the £56m club-record signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, left Arsenal earlier this month after being overlooked for a promotion.
Monchi will be given a budget of £45m if he does take the job but could cash in on players deemed surplus to requirements by Emery in order to raise more funds.
