Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believed Real Madrid counterpart Sergio Ramos should have been shown a red card in the 1-1 El Clasico draw on Wednesday.

Ramos was cautioned after ten minutes in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg at Camp Nou and was possibly fortunate to avoid a second yellow card for a foul on Arthur and a later altercation with Luis Suarez

Pique praised the overall performance of referee Antonio Mateu, but thought Ramos should have been sent off.

‘In general, he has made a good match,’ Pique told the media.

The visitors took the lead after just six minutes when Lucas Vasquez tapped in Karim Benzema’s low cross.

Barca were able to equalise after 57 minutes after Malcom followed up on Luis Suarez’s effort which rebounded off the post.

Barca were unable to find a winning goal, with Lionel Messi only able to come on as a substitute due to an ongoing thigh problem.

The scoreline leaves the tie perfectly poised for the second leg at the Bernabeu on February 27.
